HOUSEHOLD SECURITY
TOP TIPS

  • All outside doors should be fitted with British Standard 5-lever mortice locks (BS3621), and windows should be fitted with key locks (especially ground floor windows and any tht can be easily accessed) - AND REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS LOCKED, EVEN WHEN YOU ARE IN

  • If you are replacing or fitting new doors, ensure that the doors are certified to British Standard PAS 24-1

  • If you are replacuing or fitting new windows, ensure that you get ones certified to British Standard BS7950 and that the glass used in all ground floor and accessible windows is laminated

  • Consider having a burglar alarm fitted if you do not already have one - ensure that you ase an alarm company that is a member of a recognised inspectorate body such as NIS or SSAIB

  • Fit external dusk to dawn lighting and keep plants and hedges trimmed back so that they cannot be used as a natural barrier for burglars to work behind.
